Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has appointed Prince Salman bin Sultan deputy defense minister with the rank of minister, a royal court announcement said on Tuesday.
Prince Salman, the erstwhile assistant secretary-general of the National Security Council for security and intelligence affairs, replaced Prince Fahd bin Abdullah bin Muhammad.
The new appointment was recommended by Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the deputy premier and minister of defense, said the royal order carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
